A Day Trip to Viñales
See Viñales while staying in Havana!
Without a doubt, my friends and I wanted our first trip to Cuba to be more about relaxation and learning our environment than over booking city destinations within our short stay in a country. Havana has more options for AirBnB stays and is located closer to the airport. It is strategic to stay in Havana if you want to travel conveniently. Personally, I saw it as a pro to take a day trip to Viñales, rather than a night stay, to save on booking fees and also to enjoy the comfort of returning to a familiar room.
While one day in Viñales is not enough to see absolutely everything, I enjoyed every minute of it! See pictures below of how my friends and I explored!
Driver picks us up early in the morning!
On the road!
We pulled over to view at a famous hotel and look-out point. I had no clue this gentleman wasn’t a statue and was so spooked when he tapped on my shoulder. He took fun pictures with my sister and friend too!
First Stop: Horseback riding with Tequila
The horses were cleverly named Tequila, Mojito, and Daiquiri.
Exploring caves
It was too dark to take photos in the cave but here’s an idea of how the scenery looked!
The Main Attraction: Tobacco Farm Tour
Just before we were guided on a tour of the tobacco plantation, we stopped for lunch — which was included in the package!
The tour host was so crafty in demonstrating how Cuban cigars are rolled. He offered a fresh cigar and advised that they are best dipped in honey. Of course this is the opportunity to also buy your own stash!
Cuba also grows coffee beans!
We were so exhausted that we slept the whole way back and couldn’t do much except for eating when we got back to Havana. The trip was well worth it and I would definitely book this again.
