Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas
This Year’s Concept: At Home Kissing Booth
Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays! I love the color scheme and the conversations I overhear at the store about plans or deliberations on making loved ones feel special.
For the photoshoot this year, I was hoping to have a repeat of my Target pictures with my sister. Alas, we had to make-do at home and I roped my male house mate into being my photographer.
Result: nice photos, though a a lot of lighting issues affected the final product.
Since I don’t have any fun advice on how to go out, I figured this is my opportunity to do a fashion post.
3 Looks for 1 Skirt
Look 1:
When working with a dual tone and printed skirt, there are multiple directions that can be taken for styling. One of my favorite styling methods is monochrome or family tones.
For the first look, I decided that I would choose a red top and simple necklaces. A cropped sweater is warm but also has a bit of mid-drift and can accentuate your height. While a safer and more muted shoe could’ve finished off the look, I feel an outfit that has a snappy casual essence should be polished off with a bold statement. Hot pink shoes are not for my everyday, so this outfit becomes unique and elevated with the eye-catching pop of hot pink. I think you can pull off a similar look for going out!
Look 2:
A comfy and fun, multipurpose outfit. Again, I’m playing around with colors in the same family.
Notice how I swap the top for a sweatshirt that is a bit oversized and has a fun graphic. The vibe is more monochrome with both the skirt and top being pink. I would even say that this look is more youthful, so I played around with an exposed sock to accessorize. Since the graphic on my sweatshirt is white, I went for white boots and white socks that have a red gingham ruching and bow ties. This is my pick for a night with the girls.
Look 3:
Our final look is geared towards a different genre of style — modern preppy. My closet reveals a lot about my personality. As you can see, I have items that give off different impressions.
For this outfit, I felt a velvet, deep red fabric would enrich the aesthetic. The ruffle sleeve offers another touch of femininity. To play up the outfit with accessories, I went for a necklace with flowers the same shape as the skirt’s floral print. The pearls pop against the red.
I love making my legs look longer and I usually achieve that with ankle strap heels that expose more skin. These shoes are so fun because they are dual tone just like the skirt and they have bows on their backs.
Lastly, I love adding in pieces that indicate current trends while also adding to the aesthetic. These wide, poofy headbands are somewhat an ode to vintage styles but also are very popular now; I love looking back on pictures and remembering the exact year because of a trend. For instance: chokers in 2016 or Ugg’s in the early 2000s.
I hope your shoes take you to high places!
Enjoy your Valentine’s Day and long weekend! Here are some behind the scenes pictures.
