10 Must Reads to Add to Your Summer Reading List
Low on Travel Funds? Book Your Next Adventure with a Novel!
There are about seven weeks left of summer; as the days start to feel cyclical, what you need to spice up your life might just be a good book!
Here is my summer reading list! In no particular order.
#1 City of Girls, by Elizabeth Gilbert
The author of Eat, Pray, Love brings you this fictional tale full of lust for love and life. The reviews and blurb spoke to me, and it is rising on the charts!
#2 Flat-Out Love, by Jessica Park
To be honest, this novel caught my eye because the main character and I share the same first name and are both Boston transplants. It just felt meant to be! There is also a love triangle, which I think promises you some heartache. Some of us are into that kind of stuff. ;)
#3 Hippie, by Paulo Coelho
If you are a big fan of the author of The Alchemist, like me, this book is a must read! The inspiration for this novel comes from the author’s own journeys. I always connect to Coelho’s writing and recommend his other novels too!
#4 Just Kids, Patti Smith
The Godmother of Punk didn’t just give us meaningful music, she also taught us the important lesson of dreaming. This memoir of Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe will make you realize how much every moment matters. One day you’re just a kid, and then…you become who you want to be.
#5 Kitchens of the Great Midwest, by J. Ryan Stradal
Food and community is crucial to the landscape of this story. I was definitely drawn to the title, as it reminded me of my own discovery of the tasty cuisine the Midwest has to offer. The unique storytelling might consume you. If you’re looking for something different, you’ve found it!
#6 North and South, by Elizabeth Gaskell
In the mood for a period piece? I love the Regency and Victorian Era. Gaskell’s literature has also been adapted into series, so you can indulge and escape into a different world for a whole weekend. The plot of North and South offers social commentary as well as romance. Read the novels and binge every series of you have the time!
#7 Matchmaking for Beginners, by Maddie Daws
If your love life is non-existent this summer and you’re also in need of some self-discovery, why not find it in a good read. This is a tale that will make you believe in fate and finding friendship in unexpected places.
#8 Educated, by Tara Westover
This memoir is speaking to readers across the globe. A tale of traversing family identity and self motivation, the novel has so much to teach.
#9 Hamlet, by William Shakespeare
I thought it seemed fitting to add this to the reading list with the new The Lion King coming into theaters.
#10 Daring Greatly, by Brené Brown
If I could pick a phrase to capture my 2019, it would involve the words: courage and vulnerability. Thank you, Brené Brown!
#11 Eat Feel Fresh, by Sahara Rose Ketabi
This is an honorable mention, but great for those of you seeking to dip your toes into a lifestyle change. A plant based diet might be a refreshing addition to your summer plans. The recipes are approachable and yummy!
